Design Technology
At Argyle we have invested in Kapow's Scheme of Work for Design Technology.
This scheme of work fulfils the statutory requirements outlined in the national curriculum (2014). The national curriculum Programme of study for Design and Technology aims to ensure that all pupils:
1) develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.
2) build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users.
3) critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.
4) understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook. (*This aim is linked to the four strands, but is primarily met by teaching units from our Cooking and nutrition key area)
The four strands of Design, Make, Evaluate and Acquire Technical Knowledge run throughout the Scheme of Work.
The scheme of work is also organised around the following foci:
KS1
- Structures
- Textiles
- Mechanisms
- Cooking and Nutrition
KS2
- Structures
- Textiles
- Mechanisms
- Cooking and Nutrition
- Electrical Systems
- Digital World
At Argyle, we teach DT every alternate half-term. For this reason, we have chosen Kapow's 'Condensed Curriculum' which enables us to cover all required skills, foci and strands in 18 lessons per year group.
