Guidance for Home Learning Summer 2 2020

GOOGLE CLASSROOM

From June 29th home learning will be set on Google Classroom and will include a number of links to a range of educational sites. Work can be uploaded directly to the class teacher through Google Classroom. Work can still be completed in exercise books or on paper copying down questions from the relevant sites.

 A list of key literacy and maths tasks will also be posted on our website in case of any difficulty with accessing  Google Classroom.  Children may also continue to use any of the resources provided before school closed.

The following link provides a guide on how to access Google Classroom. Teachers will also support when making their weekly telephone calls.

Guide to Google Classroom

All Maths work follows the White Rose Home Learning Scheme https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/

We are starting with Summer Term Week 1.

As teachers cannot mark this work online there will be two ways in which teachers will check progress in mathematics:

  1. MyMaths
  2. For Key Stage 2 children teachers will also set a weekly assessment on ‘Learning by Questions’. Teachers will post on the Purple Mash blog a special QR code every Friday. Children can access their quiz assessment on any device using the QR code. Teachers can then monitor the child’s level of success.

    Our aim in setting home learning is:

    • To ensure that all children can access daily literacy, maths and reading activities so that they do not fall behind in their learning;
    • To provide a range of stimulating resources and activities across the wider curriculum which motivate children and encourage    them to keep on learning.

We understand that each child is unique and that family circumstances are different. Some families cannot access online resources, some children can only access for a short time. Other children have full access to their own computer. We know that some parents are able to help and support and that others may have less capacity – for a range of reasons. Some parents asked for further guidance about exactly what school expects in terms of home learning. Guidance has been provided below at the top of each year group page. We hope you will find useful.

Teachers will continue to call home each week and will happily discuss any issues that you have.

We will be preparing hard copies of work for those parents who did not complete our home learning questionnaire or who told us that they do not have access to the internet and will either deliver or post them to you. INTERNET SAFETY

During this time when children are using the internet more it is extremely important that parents are aware of ways in which to keep their children safe online. The following link gives access to ways on setting parental controls on devices and information on many of the APPS your child may use including YouTube and Fortnite. Please take time to find out about how to use them safely.
