Computing

At our school, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to discover technology, explore its possibilities and develop the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We aim to nurture confident, creative, curious, safe and responsible digital citizens.

Online safety is an essential and recurring element of our curriculum. Pupils learn to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly, protect their personal information, recognise acceptable and unacceptable behaviour, evaluate online content and understand how to seek help and report concerns. We aim to equip every child with the digital knowledge, skills and judgement needed to participate positively in an increasingly connected society.

Computing is taught in our specialist suite, which forms part of our Discovery Zone. In addition to this, a shared bank of 30 iPads and Chrome books enables pupils to access technology to support learning across the curriculum, including reading, mathematics, research and creative activities. These resources also provide opportunities for pupils to practise and apply their digital skills beyond their discrete Computing lessons.

Our curriculum encompasses the breadth of Computing, including:

    • Computer science: developing computational thinking, understanding algorithms, writing and debugging programs, and solving problems through logical reasoning.
    • Information technology: selecting and using digital tools to create, organise, store, retrieve, manipulate and present information for a range of purposes.
    • Digital literacy and online safety: communicating effectively, evaluating digital information, understanding the opportunities and risks of technology, and behaving safely and responsibly online.

In Nursery and the Early Years, technology is explored through purposeful, age-appropriate activities that support children's wider development.
